Things to do in Zurich

Do you know that Zurich is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe? (I may be a bit biased LOL). From breathtaking views of Lake Zurich to stunning cityscapes, there's no shortage of amazing locations to explore. For those looking to capture the perfect tour, we've compiled a list of the best things to do in Zurich! PS. Don't forget to explore Zurich's many museums and galleries, too — they are full of awe-inspiring works of art!

Zurich Downtown/ Old Town

Of course, the classic! Various sights, but what I always recommend are:

⇒ Bahnhofstrasse
⇒ Pestalozzianlage
⇒ Max Bill Pavilion Sculpture
⇒ Augustinergasse
⇒ Frauenmünster (chagall window)
⇒ Sankt Peter (largest clock dial in Europe)

Lake Field or Opera House

You could explore the Lake Field or Opera House area! It's a lovely area, where you can stroll on the Lake Promenade for about 20 to 30 minutes, and enjoy a nice lunch or ice cream or something! Just walk from your location to the end of the Lake Promenade.

Swiss people are very proud of our chocolate! For good reason, it is the best chocolate in the world 😇 (well as a Swiss myself, I may be a little biased) Anyway, you should not hesitate to visit the house of chocolate! There is a beautiful exhibition where you can learn everything about our chocolate tradition. Also, there is probably the best store to buy something (believe me, your friends and family will expect you to bring at least a few pieces). Since the House of Chocolate is right next to the factory, the prices are also surprisingly low. Great idea even in the bad weather as it is only 15 minutes from the center. Highly recommended!

Uetliberg Mountain

Basically, you don't need me for this trip haha! Just buy a ticket at the main station (ask the staff) and the train will directly bring you there! ;)

If you are looking for a tour guide to showcase the beauty of the area and take some professionally photographed photos, I am the man!

A beautiful little lake very close to the city of Zurich. It is really a hidden gem. There are hardly any tourists; however, it's a very popular route for locals who enjoy Katzensee to the fullest after work or on weekends.

Since I live very very close, I am there several times a week!

Another highlight is the biological diversity 🦊 🦌 🦅 - almost always you will find herons, buzzards, and with a little luck, also foxes, deers, and much more :)

  • Recommend spending 1 to about 3/4 hours there :) There is also a cozy restaurant - my classic walk lasts just under 1 hour.

  • Absolutely all seasons have their charm! In summer, it can have quite a few Swiss locals. For that, you can go swimming! Spring & fall are my personal favorite seasons for this place! Almost no one there, wonderful climate for walking/ casual hiking, and admiring the nature and wildlife! In winter, it also has again a bit more Swiss locals :) When the lake is frozen you can even buy hot drinks at small kiosks.

In autumn, it is an absolute must!!! Especially exciting for families is the creative pumpkin exhibition. Of course, also for solo travelers and couples. The Jucker Farm is as the name suggests a farm - which opens doors... Perfectly located in the impressive village of "Seegräben" with a view of the Pfäffikersee.

  • We recommend spending 2 to 6 hours: You can just visit the farm - maybe eat something small, or make a short detour to the lake, oooor walk around the whole lake 😊 Which can go 2 to 3 hours (and is absolutely worth it).

Zurich adventure

Boat trip on Lake Zurich

Yes, Switzerland is one of the most expensive destinations in the world, especially Zurich. So much better if I tell you that boat rides are quite affordable. Because they are seen as public transport!

So what are you waiting for? :) Make a round trip on Lake Zurich from 30 minutes to 3 hours - everything is possible. If you make a bigger tour, you can visit, for example, Rapperswil at the other end of the lake! It's a lovely little town.

National Museum

Our fascinating national museum towers are directly behind the main train station. Would you like to learn more about our culture? There is probably no better place than there ⇒ highly recommended!
