In a nutshell
Liechtenstein is a principality of around forty thousand people, wedged between Switzerland and Austria along the Rhine. Vaduz is the capital, but it is small enough that the government buildings, the museums and the main street sit within a few minutes of each other. The prince still lives in the castle above the town, which is why it stays closed to visitors even though it dominates every photo. The country uses the Swiss franc, has no airport and no border controls with Switzerland, so arriving barely feels like crossing into another state. Above the valley the road climbs to Malbun, a small mountain village that turns the whole country into a day with two completely different halves.
